Please mark your calendars to join us for our 2nd Annual Local Hog Roast in partnership with Barren County Schools and the Future Farmers Of America.

In 2019, a partnership was formed between Barren County Schools Future Farmers of America (FFA), and Sustainable Glasgow, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit under which Bounty of the Barrens Farmer’s Market operates. Education is the key component of this partnership and culminates in the FFA annual alumni meeting and Hog Roast.

Leading up to the event, Barren County FFA students take on active roles preparing the hog, culinary students plan and execute the menu, while other classes learn flower design and make arrangements for the event. A new feature this year will be students making a video documenting the event from the planning stages through the evening of the event. Truly, this is a schoolwide event as students in the after school program also help with setup/takedown and other preparations.

Sustainable Glasgow assists the school by working with market vendors to provide produce used in the meal, the hog is secured from Moore's Country Sausage (a former market vendor), and one of our local flower vendors leads the flower arrangement class. The goal of this partnership is to show students they can have a future in agriculture by exposing them to successful agriculture businesses.

The event has not been held since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and we are looking to come back better than ever. In 2019, the event sold out with 500 tickets and we are expecting the same amount of attendees this year. We have included a flier, but the event will be September 29th at 6pm.

We hope you will join us in empowering the future of agriculture in Barren County.
